Here's some events being run in Wellington that we think you might find interesting:
Building Bridges - Not Barriers The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with others is one of the key elements for success both personally and professionally. However, to do so requires insight, skill and, most importantly, a commitment to do everything we can to make our relationships with others as positive as possible by eliminating the negative. This programme examines ways of building and maintaining those relationships, especially in times of difficulty or stress. It also looks at how to build valuable networks which may assist us in the future and how we can impact these both positively and negatively according to our own behaviour and attitude.
Courageous Conversations Courageous conversations are those difficult conversations every manager or team leader needs to have with staff or project team members when they are not performing at an acceptable level. They are the conversations we need to have with senior management when the advice or information we need to provide may be less than welcome. Conveying difficult messages to anyone is not easy. However, many of us are either unable or unwilling to have these conversations, the consequences of which affect not just the manager and the individual concerned. It can have a rippling effect, spreading disaffection amongst others, especially high-performers who see under-performance or important issues going unaddressed.
Managing Working Relationships Successfully To be successful and respected in our chosen career, it is increasingly important that we are able to build and maintain positive working relationships not only with the people with whom we work but also with our clients and business associates. To do so effectively, we must be able to deal with all types of personalities and relate to a variety of people with opinions, values and temperaments all different to our own. We must also be aware of the effect of our own behaviour on our working relationships and be prepared to be flexible in our dealings with others to the extent of adapting our own style where necessary.
Leadership and Motivation Leadership is more a process than a positional or status relationship. By learning whether you are more of a leader or more of a manager, you will gain insight and self-confidence that comes with knowing more about yourself.
Communication and Influencing Skills One of the key factors for success in business, be it the achievement of results embodied in either organisational or project plans or simply gaining co-operation, is our ability to persuade and influence others, from senior management through to support staff and the users of our services. To do so effectively requires many skills. We must be able to express ourselves persuasively in a variety of situations while at the same time listening to, valuing and responding to the views of others. Most importantly, we must also understand the power of crystal clear focus and our own actions to influence outcomes.
Team Leader Programme This practical and interactive two-day workshop was introduced in 2001 and has proven to be a very popular and highly effective experience for those wanting to develop their roles of supervising others. Focusing on the day-to-day management of individuals and teams, the Team Leader Programme objective is to provide those attending with a variety of practical tools, and the opportunity to try these out before taking them into their workplace. Each participant will undertake an analysis of their own work team’s current performance and potential, and during the workshop will develop a detailed Action Plan on issues identified as being of particular relevance.
Managing Pressure and Stress In today's result orientated business environment, increasing demands are being made on us to perform. We must be able to handle not only the technical responsibilities of our jobs but also the pressures and stresses associated with a heavy workload, performing to expectations and coping with change. We also have to deal with different people and personalities while trying to handle the competing demands being made on us both at work and at home. To do so effectively requires both insight and skill and, in particular, an acceptance that while pressures, problems and stresses are part of everyday living, we do have the ability to minimise their impact through positive action on our part. |
